Guardianship
The most severe protective measure whereby an adult loses complete legal capacity.
Guardianship is a protective measure for adults who are unable to manage their affairs due to their mental or physical condition, or due to habitual misuse of alcohol or drugs (Article 1:378 of the Dutch Civil Code). The person placed under guardianship loses legal capacity and is assigned a guardian to manage their affairs.
“Due to severe dementia, the father was placed under guardianship.”
