Divorce
The legal dissolution of a marriage by a court ruling.
Divorce is the legal termination of a marriage. In the Netherlands, a divorce can only be pronounced by a judge. A divorce petition must be filed by a lawyer. The ground for divorce is the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage. A divorce can be requested jointly (both agree) or unilaterally (one party).
