Divorce proceedings
The legal process at the court for dissolving a marriage.
The divorce proceedings begin with the filing of a petition by a lawyer at the court. This can be a joint or unilateral petition. In a unilateral petition, the other party may file a defence. The judge processes the petition, possibly at a hearing, and pronounces the divorce. The decree is registered in the civil registry records, after which the divorce is final.
