Geregistreerd partnerschap
Registered partnership
A legally recognized form of cohabitation with largely the same rights and obligations as marriage.
Registered partnership is a legal form of cohabitation introduced in the Netherlands in 1998. It has largely the same legal consequences as marriage, including maintenance obligations, inheritance rights and property consequences. A registered partnership can be entered into at the municipality and can be terminated by agreement (without a judge) if there are no minor children, or through the court if there are children or if the parties disagree.
“They had their registered partnership converted into a marriage.”
