Hoofdverblijfplaats

Primary residence

The home where the child is officially registered and primarily resides after divorce.

The child's primary residence determines with which parent the child is officially registered after divorce. This has consequences for child benefit, allowances and school choice. With joint custody, parents must decide together about the primary residence. If they cannot agree, the court may decide. The primary residence does not have to coincide with a co-parenting arrangement; even with equal distribution, there is one primary residence.

The children's primary residence was determined to be with the mother.
