Name change
Changing a child's surname after divorce or recognition.
A child's name change can be requested from the King (via Justis, an agency of the Ministry of Justice and Security). There must be special circumstances, for example if the child wants to bear the other parent's name after a divorce. For children under 12, the custodial parent(s) decide; children aged 12 and older must consent themselves. The procedure takes several months and involves costs.
“After the divorce, the mother applied for a name change so the child would get her surname.”
