Parental authority

The set of rights and duties of parents with respect to their minor children.

Parental authority encompasses the duty and right of a parent to care for and raise their minor child. This concerns matters such as daily care, school choice, medical decisions and management of the child's assets. After a divorce, both parents in principle retain joint authority, unless the court decides otherwise. Sole authority may be assigned if the child's interest requires this.

After the divorce, both parents jointly exercise parental authority over their children.
