Samenlevingscontract

Cohabitation agreement

A notarial agreement between cohabiting partners about their financial arrangements.

A cohabitation agreement is a notarial deed in which unmarried cohabitants record agreements about their financial situation. The contract may contain arrangements about the division of costs, ownership of assets, pension entitlements and what happens at the end of the relationship. Unlike marriage or registered partnership, without a contract there is no legal right to alimony or division of assets. A cohabitation agreement provides legal protection and clarity.

Before they moved in together, they had a cohabitation agreement drawn up at the notary.
