Out-of-home placement

A child protection measure placing a child in foster care or an institution.

An out-of-home placement is a child protection measure in which a child is temporarily placed outside the family, in a foster family, family home or residential institution. An out-of-home placement can be ordered when the home situation is so unsafe that the child's development is seriously threatened. The juvenile court judge decides at the request of the Child Protection Board or the Public Prosecutor. An authorization for out-of-home placement is valid for a maximum of one year and can be extended.

After the Board's investigation, the juvenile court judge decided on placement in a foster family.
