Substitute consent

Consent granted by the court in place of a parent's consent.

Substitute consent can be granted by the court when parents with joint custody cannot agree on an important decision about the child. Examples include: relocation with the child, school choice, medical treatment, passport application or name change. The judge then decides in the child's interest and grants consent in place of the refusing parent.

The mother asked the court for substitute consent for the relocation to another city.
