Waiting period for divorce

The period of six months after the judgment within which the divorce must be registered in the civil register.

Following the judgment by the court, a period of six months applies under Article 1:163 of the Dutch Civil Code within which the divorce must be registered in the civil register. Registration makes the divorce final. If registration does not take place within the time limit, the judgment loses its legal force.

After the waiting period expired without registration, the divorce judgment lost its force.
